The Andy Griffith Show episode guide – seasons 1 through 5

The Andy Griffith Show is one of the classic television series.  It deals with the live of a small town Sheriff, Andy Taylor, played by Andy Griffith.  Sheriff Andy’s a likeable, laid-back fellow, who’s typically correct with his homespun wisdom – but not infallible.  He’s a widower, raising his son Opie (Ron Howard). With the help of his Aunt Bea (Frances Bavier).

The cast is rounded out by his overly serious, bumbling, loyal, and likeable deputy Barney Fife (Don Knotts). And with a large cast of recurring characters.  These include Gomer (Jim Nabors), Goober, Ellie, Helen Krump, and many more.  Life in Mayberry is normally quiet, and the episodes reflect that. With minor issues being dealt with enjoyably.

Technically, No Time for Sergeants is Don Knotts first movie.   However, his time on-screen is very brief. He plays a neurotic Army officer who gives Andy Griffith’s character, Will Stockdale, one of his tests.   As a consolation, however, No Time for Sergeants is a hilariously funny movie.   The basic plot has Will Stockdale being drafted into the Army. Attempts by other recruits to harass the country boy fail miserably. Due to Will’s easy-going nature, lack of apprehension of some of the insults, and his incredible good luck.

When Ellie wonders why there are no women running for the city council and doesn’t like Andy’s answers, especially his use of the word silly, she decides to run herself. The town quickly divides into two camps, with the men cutting off their wives’ charge accounts and the women refusing to cook and clean for their husbands. Ellie decides to quit the race when she sees the uproar she has caused but Andy, realizing he was wrong, tells everyone there is no good reason for her not to run.
