The Muppet Show season 1 with Ruth Buzzi, originally aired October 9 1976
The Muppet Show begins with a musical number. Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem perform Sunny. With Animal continually increasing the tempo until they all collapse.
The running gag is a very funny subplot as a robotic host replaces Kermit the Frog. And taking Kermit’s place, at every opportunity. Then it starts hitting on Miss Piggy.
At the Dance. As normal, an excuse for punning around on the dance floor. But Kermit’s robotic double keeps upstaging him.
Wayne and Wanda attempt to sing Row, Row, Row Your Boat. Which, of course, backfires hilariously.
You’re Just Too Good to be True
Ruth Buzzi and Sweetums sing a very funny rendition of You’re Just Too Good to be True. O ne of the few times I actually felt sorry for Sweetums :). She’s a very clingy girlfriend …. Proving that you always hurt the one you love!
Chatting with Ruth Buzzi
Ruth Buzzi and Kermit have a chat. They “chew the fat”, which leads into a discussion about healthy eating. No, not dairy! That killed my uncle! He was hit by a dairy truck. And it ends with Ruth tickling Kermit’s fancy …. Literally!
Fozzie does his stand-up comedy.
Fozzie Bear: I finally found a sure way to lose weight. I bought a scale that lies!
Fozzie Bear: A lot of these folks want to see me!
Statler: Well, so do we.
Fozzie Bear: You want to see me perform?
Waldorf: No, retire!
Interrogation skit
A truly funny skit with Ruth Buzzi as a captured spy …. With various Muppets interrogating her. It begins with, “We have ways of making you talk!” But no! Ruth will talk. She gives them critical information. And, as they’re leaving, wait! She has more information! And more …. Until she’s telling them personal information about other people, including how cute somebody’s kid is! And the interrogators are begging her to stop! “We have ways of making you stop talking!”.
