In Gorgo, a prehistoric creature is discovered by two men, and taken back to civilization to be displayed. But then they find out it’s only a baby …. What about its’ mother?
Gorgo (1961) starring Bill Travers, William Sylvester
Gorgo is the touching story of a mother’s love. After her child is taken, she won’t let anything get in the way of finding her lost child, and safely bringing him back home. Oddly, they’re both dinosaurs. No, seriously.
At its heart, that’s the story of Gorgo. And I frankly root for the dinosaurs, and our human protagonists are actually the villains. Although they don’t know that, at least at first. And the young boy they take along on the trip instinctively knows that it’s wrong to take this poor creature away from its home. And he starts to convince one of the two men of this.
Of course, there’s a lot of destruction along the way, and I feel sorry for the suffering people of London. It’s not their fault, after all.
Sam Slade: We might be able to catch it in the nets. But how do you propose to kill a thing like that?
Joe Ryan: Oh, I don’t know. Dynamite, maybe?
Sam Slade: Ever stop to think what a thing like that might be worth alive?
Product Description
A volcanic eruption in the North Atlantic brings to the surface a 65-foot prehistoric monster. Two treasure divers capture the creature and take him to London where he made the star attraction at a circus. A scientist is thoughtful enough to point out that the sailors bonanza is only an infant, and that a full-grown specimen would be over 200 feet in height. Sure enough, Gorgo’s mama comes thundering ashore, reclaims her offspring and heads back to sea but not before, she trashes a generous portion of London.
