That Darn Catwoman Batman season 2

In That Darn Catwoman, The Catwoman (Julie Newmar) manages to drug Robin. The junior member of the Dynamic Duo is now the Catwoman’s mindless slave. And, her newest henchwoman is just Robin’s age. Coincidentally.

Quotes

Pussycat: I wanna be alone with you, Robin.
Robin: Alone with me? But why?
Pussycat: I can see a very important part of your education has been grossly neglected.

Catwoman: This is a surprise attack! Now, you all have your instructions… synchronize watches!
Spade: None of us have watches.
Catwoman: [exasperated] Agh! Just… get the money and run! [to a drugged Robin] How are you feeling, Robin?
Robin: Hmmm… Purr-fect!
Catwoman: You’re learning.

Scat! Darn Catwoman

But in Scat! Darn Catwoman, Batman agrees to let the Catwoman drug him. But he appears to have a headache and the Catwoman permits him to take an aspirin. She’s far too trusting.

Quotes

[first lines] Narrator: [narrating] When we last glimpsed the masked man-hunter, he was about to be snapped to death by a gigantic bat-trap. And a poor, drugged Robin as the unwitting tool of his destruction! Batman’s only hope is to join forces with Catwoman. But we know he won’t do that! Or will he? The incredible answer in just one moment!

Catwoman: It’s a new explosive that makes no noise. It’s called “silentmite”.

Commissioner Gordon: [interrogating Pussycat] It’s no use, O’Hara; she won’t crack.
Chief O’Hara: Oh, what she needs is a good slap on the wrist!
Commissioner Gordon: That’s enough! You know I’m violently opposed to police brutality!

Little Al: Criminals just ain’t genteel any more.

Pussycat: I’m not the kind of girl to kiss a boy on the first crime…
Robin: [grabs her face and turns it towards his] Close your eyes and pucker, and don’t worry about your reputation.

Batman: I’ll do everything I can to rehabilitate you.
Catwoman: [perks up] Marry me.
Batman: Everything except that. A wife, no matter how beauteous, or affectionate would severely impair my crimefighting.
Catwoman: But I could help you in your work. As a former criminal, I’d be invaluable. I can reform, honestly I can.
Batman: What about Robin?
Catwoman: [pulls a disgusted face] Robin? Oh, I’ve got it: we’ll kill him.
Batman: I see you’re not really ready to assume a life in society.

Trivia

  • Prince Kereb’s name was originally Ferdberger. Writer Stanley Ralph Ross said network censors thought the name sounded dirty, even though he named the character after a friend with the same name. Kereb is actually the Arabic translation for Son Of A B**ch, and Ross said the network never picked up on it.
  • A rare event occurred: Catwoman visited the Batcave, being just the third super-villain to successfully do so, after the Joker and Penguin in The Penguin Declines. The Riddler’s ill-fated accomplice Molly also visited the Batcave in Smack in the Middle.
  • In Scat! Darn Catwoman Catwoman claims she could survive the leap into the river, but Batman reminds her that she wouldn’t survive the 200 foot fall down below. This was also the second time that the feline uses one of her “nine lives” (as previously seen in “Better Luck Next Time“) when trying to escape the Dynamic Duo. She claims she can swim; however in the Batman film she panics when Penguin’s sub is hit by Batman’s blasts and claims that cats don’t like water (she and her cat avoided water during the infamous fight scene).

Puns galore!

  • “World’s richest and cheapest inventor” Pat Pending is a common abbreviation for “Patent Pending”.
  • Rudy, the Valet is a reference to actor/singer Rudy Vallee.
  • New Guernsey is the Batman version of New Jersey. Jersey and Guernsey are both names of milk cows. Mayor Linseed is a pun on John V. Lindsay, mayor of New York City from 1966 until 1973.
  • Governor Stonefellow is a pun on Nelson Rockefeller, governor of New York state from 1959 until 1973.
  • Short Island is a play on Long Island.
  • The West River is a pun on the East River.
  • Catwoman’s minions are called Spade, Marlow, and Templar – all names of famous fictional detectives: Sam Spade (“The Maltese Falcon“); Philip Marlowe (“The Big Sleep“); and Simon Templar (also known as The Saint).
