The Return of Count Yorga is one of those few sequels that is superior to the original film — in this case, Count Yorga, Vampire. The acting is, for the most part, better and the characters are at least as interesting.

Once there, they are forced to deal with a warlord named General Fang, played by Boris Karloff. It is Karloff’s performance that makes an otherwise ordinary movie memorable.

The basic problem with the film is that the central conflict — nerdy scientist Flint Lockwood seeks approval from a father figure — is exactly the same as in the original film. Only the father figure has changed.

Hotel Transylvania aims at a juvenile audience. Complete with the fart jokes and low humor that we’ve come to expect from Adam Sandler. And that’s a real pity. It’s actually a much better film than that.

The Inn of the Sixth Happiness is an exceptional movie. Made even more exceptional by the fact that it’s based on a true story. It’s the story of Gladys Aylward (performed by Ingrid Bergman, Casablanca in a great performance). A British woman in the early 20th century who feels called by God to be a missionary in China.
