The Carol Burnett Show season 2: Imogene Coca and Robert Goulet, broadcast April 7, 1969

School Teachers in Rome

Imogene Coca and Carol Burnett play American teachers in Rome. Where they’re looking for love, of course. Carol is picked up by a handsome Italian almost immediately, but Imogene is left alone. Until the handsome Lyle comes by! Sadly, he wants to be paid for his time. She’s then sad and alone, and sings “If Love Were All”

The New Maid

A hilarious skit, where Carol plays the part of Shirley, the maid for a Hollywood couple. The husband, Lyle Wagoner, is hilariously vain! And his wife, Vicki Lawrence, is jealous — and eventually fires Shirley. Can’t really blame her …. Then Cedric the chauffeur, Harvey Korman, has to drive the husband to work. And Shirley is determined to be near him!

Cinderumplewhite

The main sketch is a very funny spoof of fairy tales, narrated by Vicki Lawrence as a young girl in a giant rocker, reading the story of “Cinderumplewhite”. Which is a massive hodgepodge of various fairy tales. Carol plays the title character, a sweet and kindly young woman. “Hello, rabbit.” And the antagonist is the wicked witch, played by Imogene Coca, who hates everyone and everything – but especially Cinderumplewhite!

She’s plotting to keep her from the handsome prince (Robert Goulet) who’s curse she could break! To that end, she conjures up a conjoined set of twin monsters — Lyle Wagoner and Harvey Korman, of course! And they’re both hilarious in their roles! They even seem to defeat the Prince, until he knocks them both out, So the witch turns herself into a dancing dragon! But good prevails, of course, and after climbing her long hair to get to Cinderumplewhite in her tower, it’s tie for love’s first kiss. Which doesn’t work the way they expected!
