Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943) By: The Masked Reviewer

The movie begins on a full moon in a graveyard, with two grave robbers robbing Larry Talbot’s tomb. Too bad werewolves don’t die. Larry wakes up in a hospital 40 miles away, with a severe head injury. He later escapes the hospital to find the infamous Dr. Ludwig Frankenstein, only to find out that the doctor had died, but his monster hasn’t.

I would normally enjoy a film like this but, the hospital scenes that are so important to the movie seemed to keep on going. For the special effects of the film were rather cheesy, but what do you expect out of an old horror movie. They didn’t have the best special effects. But they could have had better scripts. I did enjoy Lon Chaney Jr.‘s performance as the Wolf Man. He made the character relatable which was rather hard to do in my opinion because of their unrealistic script. This movie also had Bela Lugosi which I would normally believe would make the movie better. They had him play Frankenstein’s monster, in which all you could really do was moan, and walk like a robot. If you want to laugh at one of Hollywood’s failed “scary” movies of one of best years. Sadly this was a miss in a line of great movies that could actually scare you. I might watch this again if I’m bored ,or nothing better is on.

As a classic movie lover I have to give this film 2 out of 5 stars.

(Editor’s note: for a different perspective on this movie, read Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man.)
